    Mon 18 Mar 2024 Mr A Green

On Thursday 22nd February we celebrated Founders Day/World Thinking Day. Children came to school in their Squirrel, Beaver, Cub or Scout uniforms, or their Rainbow, Brownie or Guide uniforms. They then taught the rest of school about the importance of their groups and their impact on society, as well as who and what they thought about helping and supporting in a positive way.

We also had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day 2024! The children dressed up in some amazing outfits based upon their favourite book characters and were all in such good spirits. Thank you to the PTA for coming in with ‘Wonka Bars’ for all the children, and ‘well done’ to all those that found golden tickets that enabled them to go home with a nice book. On World Book Day we also had a surprise visit from Donny Dog (Doncaster Rovers’ mascot), who dropped off some lovely books for our library!

Having applied for a chance to win a girls’ football kit from the Premier League we were fortunate enough to be one of the lucky winners! Phoebe Sneddon from Doncaster Rovers Belles then came to our school to do a training session with the girls team and present them with their new Premier League kit. Some girls from Key Stage 2 then represented us in our first ever girls’ match. We had a mixture of Year 3-6 girls taking on a side made almost solely of Year 6 girls which shows how well they all did. We are very proud of them all. Below is a Facebook link to the Club Doncaster Foundation page which shows their visit to Everton Primary School:

We currently have a Parent Governor position available on our school's Governing Body. If anyone is interested in possibly supporting school in this role then I can discuss details and commitments with you. We also currently have child places available in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. If you, or anyone you know, would like to visit our lovely school then please feel free to contact me via Mrs Keely Bailey in the school office on 01777 817350 or email: office@everton.notts.sch.uk

    Tue 20 Feb 2024 Mr A Green

It feels like we’re well into 2024 already at Everton Primary School, the children have been learning about a variety of special occasions and important events. These include ‘World Religion Day’, ‘Online Safety Day’, Chinese New Year and an ‘Understanding Differences Week’. The School Council, alongside the PTA, have also started a Tuck Shop and introduced a staff ‘Bring a pet to school day’.

‘World Religion Day’ was turned into a focus of learning for the week where we found out that there are thousands of different religions practised across the world. We tend to focus upon the major religions of Christianity, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism, but there are so many more interesting and fascinating religions to study and understand.

Our ‘Understanding Differences Week’ followed on nicely from the previous weeks with the children focusing on what makes us all special and unique. At Everton Primary School we want to be inclusive of everyone, so understanding that it is ok to be who you want to be and be accepting of who others want to be is incredibly important to us all. As part of this special week we had a non-uniform day with the theme of “Wear what you love” to show and celebrate our uniqueness and the individuality of others.

Chinese New Year is always popular at our school, so to celebrate the year of the Dragon Mrs Foster created a special lunch menu that included sweet & sour chicken and savoury rice or vegetable chow mein & sweetcorn cobette. This went down very well with both children and staff. Our ‘Cooking Club’, run by Mrs Lewins and Miss Oakley, also created some delicious vegetable spring rolls and our Foundation Stage children created some amazing dragons.

In Class 2 this month we were very fortunate to have Sue Hughes, one of our governors, come into school and lead workshop on Owl Pellets, as an over-learning activity linked to the digestive system. It was brilliant and the children worked so hard whilst making lots of discoveries! Class 2 have also been studying Ancient Egypt and therefore created and evaluated Egyptian bread in DT. It was fascinating to find that some children actually prefer it to the bread we eat today!

For your information we currently have child places available in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. If you, or anyone you know, would like to visit our lovely school then please feel free to contact me via Mrs Keely Bailey in the school office on 01777 817350 or email: office@everton.notts.sch.uk

  • January 2024

    Mon 22 Jan 2024 Mr A Green

May I start by wishing everyone a very happy new year from Everton Primary School.

As they always do, our children have returned to school so positively and are enjoying their new tasks and topics. Our Foundation Stage has been turned into a ‘Dinosaur Kingdom’ with the Nursery and Reception children focusing on the book ‘Mad About dinosaurs’ within their topic of ‘Prehistoric Pals’. The children have and have linked this theme into all of their work across the curriculum areas.

In Class 1 the children have researched Africa in geography, completed shape work in maths, done science and DT work on materials and construction, whilst using role play in English linked to their new text: ‘Mama Panya’s Pancakes’.

Class 2 have started the year by revolving their work around the topic of Ancient Egypt and mysterious newspaper articles and evidence surrounding the death of King Tut. I’m sure that our Year 3 and 4 children will get to the bottom of this mystery as the term progresses!

Our oldest children in Class 3 have started the year by completing their work on the Victorian story of ‘Street Child’, before moving on to a new theme of ‘Space and our Solar System’. This topic has also involved the children exploring sundials in DT and maps and globes in Geography. The Year 5 children have also started DAaRT sessions, which are taught by a DArRT Officer and covers a variety of social and emotional topics to help the children prepare for secondary school and teenage life.

  • December 2023

    Thu 21 Dec 2023 Mr A Green

As always December is a magical time in school that where the children sparkle in the run up to Christmas. We were incredibly proud of our children in the build up to, and during, their Nativity and Annie performances. Our Reception and Key Stage 1 children performed in the Nativity whilst our Key Stage 2 children that attend our Musical Theatre Club at school with Miss Spencer performed in Annie. It was wonderful to have so many parents, carers and members of the village watch and celebrate our performances.

Over the month of December we invited parents and carers into school to take part in our Christmas Craft Afternoon, where the children were able to make Christmas decorations alongside their trusted adult. Class 2 also led our Christmas Service in church alongside Tony – singing and reading beautifully. Our Reception and Class 1 children went on an educational visit to Southwell Minster and the staff were delighted with all the positive comments about their behaviour and manners.

In sporting news, Class 3 sent an athletics team to the Sports Hall Athletics championships and came first! This means that they will go onto the Bassetlaw Finals in the new year. Class 2 children also went on a ‘Jingle Jog’ at Sherwood Pines, which was a lovely event where the children jogged a 3km route adorned with Santa hats.

In other news, we are still looking for a ‘Parent Governor’, so if you are a parent of school and have any availability to help oversee the running of our wonderful school, then it would be lovely to discuss what the role would entail with you. If you are interested, please could you contact me via Mrs Keely Bailey in the school office on 01777 817350 or email: office@everton.notts.sch.uk

Lastly, thank you to every stakeholder of school – children, parents, carers, professionals, members of our community – who have supported and enabled the school to thrive in the last 12 months. From everyone at Everton Primary School, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

  • November 2023

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

November started with all children taking part in a Diwali Dance Workshop put on by the West End in Schools production team. It was a practical and memorable way for our children to learn about Diwali, and the dances really brought the story to life. Mrs Foster, our school cook, also created a homemade curry for us to eat at lunchtime which was delicious.

On Friday 10th November we held a two-minute silence to remember those past and present that have served and protected us so that we have the freedom to come to school without fear. During this month both Class 1 and Class 3 have been on educational visits. Class 1 went are to the Austerfield Study Centre and Austerfield Church, where the children had a wonderful time learning about William Bradford and exploring nature through creativity. Whilst Class 3 went to Whitby for three days, taking part in the ‘Town Trail’, a lighthouse challenge, fossil hunting on the beach, as well as visiting the Lifeboat and Whitby museums and the Endeavour Experience. It was a quiet journey home with some very tired children! Upon their return, some of our Class 3 pupils took part in an Orienteering competition at Worksop College, doing very well in beautiful conditions.

On Monday 13th November we began ‘Anti-bullying week’ with everybody wearing odd socks to remind us that we are all different – and we should celebrate that we are all different! On Friday 17th November we enjoyed ‘Pudsey’ biscuits kindly made by Mrs Foster and Mrs Goddard in the school kitchen for Children in Need Day. On the theme of fundraising, thank you to all parents, carers and members of the community who donated clothes and other items to our ‘Bags 2 School’ event – we managed to raise £135.00.

December sees us enter advent and the countdown to Christmas. Everton Primary School is delighted to invite the village’s ‘Golden Oldies’ residents to watch our performances of the Nativity and ‘Annie’ on Tuesday 19th December, at the Village Hall. The first performance will commence at 9:30am with the second expecting to end at approximately 11am. If you would like to attend please contact Keely Bailey, at Everton Primary School on 01777 817350 or email: office@everton.notts.sch.uk

  • October 2023

    Mon 16 Oct 2023 Mr A Green

October has been a very successful month for the children of Everton Primary School. Firstly, our School Cross Country Team finished third overall at the Bassetlaw Schools competition at the Retofrd Oaks Academy. Three of our pupils – Oscar, George and Daisy – have even been selected to compete at the Nottinghamshire County Cross Country Final due to their performance. After that, all of our children from Reception to Year 6 qualified as ‘Mini First Aiders’. As a school, with the support of the PTA, we thought that a first aid qualification and experience could be vital for our children.

Our Harvest Festival Service was led by our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. It was wonderful to hear such beautiful singing, fluent reading and magnificent actions the children displayed. Thank you for all the kind donations which were passed on to the Bassetlaw Food Bank. Next, the whole school were given a demonstration of an Aquabox by Mike and Linda from the Retford Rotary Club. An Aquabox includes a pump which filters dirty water and produces clean water. The Rotary Club use some of their funds to send Aquaboxes to countries around that world that have suffered natural disasters and have no clean running water.

In the next couple of weeks, after half term, we will be taking part in a Diwali Dance Workshop which has been purchased by our PTA, and will be a practical and memorable way for our children to learn about Diwali; Class 1 and Class 3 are going on educational visits to the Austerfield Study Centre and Whitby; and the whole school will be taking part in Anti-bullying week amongst many other things!

If any parents/carers (new or old) feel that they could help support our school's PTA then it would be most helpful and beneficial. The PTA have done so much to raise money and support the children of our school in the last couple of years and it'd be great to get some new members. If you would like any further information about being a PTA member, then please feel free to contact me via the school office or access the PTA Facebook page: www.facebook.com/evertonPTA. The PTA also run a school lottery that you can enter if you so wish: https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/school/everton-primary-school. All funds raised from PTA events go towards supporting experiences – like the Mini First Aid event above – for our current pupils.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that we still have a space in each of our current Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6 age groups for this academic year. If you would like to arrange a visit to this wonderful village school, then please call or email us to arrange a visit (office@everton.notts.sch.uk or 01777817350).

  • September 2023

    Tue 26 Sep 2023 Mr A Green

Happy New Year – academic year that is! It has been lovely to welcome back children and parents – both new and old – to Everton Primary School. The first week was incredibly warm but the children were able to take their learning outside and enjoy our new Commando Joe’s Hub built over the summer as well as cheer on the Tour of Britain cyclists. The Tour of Britain passing through Everton gave our children the chance to line Bawtry Road and support the professional cyclists as they rode through the Nottinghamshire stage of the tour. Our children were also very excited about the police and ambulance services passing through as they waved and switched their sirens on whilst passing the them.

Lots of our children entered the Village Show hosted by the Everton Garden Holders on Sunday 17th September, with many children discussing how proud of their placings and commendations they were. Whilst talking about the Everton Garden Holders, I must also send my congratulation and thanks to Victoria Oaks and Sarah Troop who received the RHS Certificate for their work with the School Gardening Club. This club was extremely popular during the summer term and the time, support and advice that they both gave to our pupils was most appreciated, not to mention the vegetables they grew!

In the next couple of weeks our children will be taking part in a Mini First Aid Day, which has been purchased by our PTA, where they will be taught basic first aid. If any parents/carers (new or old) feel that they could help support our school's PTA then it would be most helpful and beneficial. The PTA have done so much to raise money and support the children of our school in the last couple of years and it'd be great to get some new members. • June 2023

    Fri 30 Jun 2023 Mr A Green

On Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th April 2023, Everton Primary was assessed by Ofsted. We are delighted to share with you that the school has been graded as ‘Good’. The full report has now been made public and can be viewed on our website: www.evertonprimary.co.uk

As you can see from a couple of comments from our Ofsted Report above, the relationships between all stakeholders of Everton Primary School are incredibly important, and I believe, what makes our school such a wonderful place to work and learn. As I stated when I first arrived at Everton Primary School – the children are at the heart of everything we do and we are determined to create a school that is central to village life.

As a school we are now looking for a new Co-opted Governor. A Co-opted Governor is an individual from the community who has skills and experience that will help to support the school continue with its positive progress. A Co-opted Governor does not have to be from an education background – just someone that cares and wants the best for the children and school. If you feel that you could fulfil this role, or would like more information about it, then please give me a call via the school office: 01777 817350.

Everton Primary School would like to invite any parents, carers or local community members who have helped in school throughout the academic year to a tea party at 2pm on Wednesday 12th July 2023. So, if you have helped with anything: walking down to church with the children, taken children to sporting events, been on the PTA or governors, donated books etc. – whatever you have done – then you are invited and more than welcome! If you would like to attend, then please could you email Mrs Bailey in the school office: office@everton.notts.sch.uk so that we can accommodate for the correct numbers. Many thanks for your continued support.

In other news this month, our Year 1 and 2 children in Class 1 went on a school visit to Brodsworth Hall and Gardens as part of their ‘Plants’ topic. The children experienced a beautiful day surrounded by, and learning about, the world around them. We must note how pleased we were with the children’s behaviour and how they represented the school whilst on the trip, our staff were incredibly proud of how many positive comments they received from the general public.

As we move into the final half term before the summer holidays, it is worth mentioning that we have a space in each of our current Nursery, Reception, Year 3 and Year 5 age groups for the next academic year. If you would like to arrange a visit to this wonderful village school, then please call or email us to arrange a visit (office@everton.notts.sch.uk or 01777817350).

    Best wishes,

  • May 2023

    Sun 28 May 2023 Mr A Green

During the month of May our Year 6 and Year 2 children have been taking part in their national SATs Tests. Although they are given to children to measure academic progress and attainment, they will never paint the full picture of each child’s progress during their time at Everton Primary School.

As a school, and as a Headteacher, I couldn’t be prouder of our pupils for all that they achieve throughout their primary school journey here at Everton. No test will show us what we already know: what kind, caring and conscientious children they are, children who are wonderful individuals that come together every day to try their very best to improve and succeed - that’s all we can ever ask for.

Prior to the SATs Tests, on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th April 2023, Everton Primary was assessed by Ofsted. We now await the report which has not been made public yet, but whatever the result, the governors, staff and I are all proud of what we have achieved and the direction that the school is going. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders of Everton Primary School: staff, parents, governors, the local community and most of all our incredible children for their ongoing hard work and support.

Finally, it is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to Mr Richard Scott, our Assistant Headteacher, who is retiring on Wednesday 24th May 2023. Richard has dedicated himself to our school for almost 20 years, and quite simply, Everton Primary School will not be the same without him. I would like to thank Richard for his service to our school and personally for all of his support during my tenure here. We all wish him every success and happiness during his well-earned retirement.

    Best wishes,

  • April 2023

    Wed 19 Apr 2023 Mr A Green

The first two weeks of April has consisted of the Easter holidays, but this hasn’t stopped the work going on at Everton Primary School. Before the Easter break our Class 3 children led our Easter Service, which entailed dramatized readings, singing and musical interludes, all enjoyed by their families and staff.

During the Easter holidays one of our parents, Mr Pete Coe, and his team at Retford Ready Mix Concrete and Screed Ltd (www.retfordreadymix.co.uk) kindly donated their time and resources to resurface, fit a bench and create an emblem at the front of school; fix the kitchen roof (felt kindly donated by www.jewson.co.uk); clean the drains; jet wash the front of school and Foundation Stage; deliver new woodchip to the Foundation Stage (woodchip kindly donated by www.proturf.co.uk); as well as garden the ramp flowerbeds and supply a new latch for the ramp gate amongst other things! We thank them for all their hard work.

As a school we must also thank another parent of school, Mr Ben Hunter, and his team at Kixx (www.kixx.org.uk) who have kindly donated brand new ‘Story Bags’ for our Nursery and Reception children. These bags will be used by the children and parents to develop early language and communication skills as they enter Everton Primary School.

Upon returning to school after Easter, the children were joined in school by Kelly and Jack from Cross-Curricular Orienteering. At the end of March we had a permanent course set up around the school grounds and the first day after the Easter holidays we had the Cross-Curricular Orienteering team in to show us how we can utilise it across school and how to link the course into all areas of our learning. The children played some great games to practice following instructions about directions and then learnt some of the key orienteering features. We finished the session by going on a scavenger hunt for the signs. It was so much fun! We can't wait to use the Orienteering course to support our learning and get us active in our future learning.

Everton Primary School is a lovely village school with a very capable, kind and caring staff. If you, or anyone you know, have preschool or primary aged children and would like to make visit to look around our school with a view to attending then please get in touch with us on 01777817350 or email office@everton.notts.sch.uk .
