As previously mentioned, Everton Primary School were personally invited by Steel (a Gladiator on the show) to attend a live recording of the show due to how well behaved, interested and engaged our children were during his visit to our school. During the visit he spoke to our children about mental and physical health and fitness, confidence and anxiety, as well as ‘glimmers’ (positive thoughts and affirmations).

During the day at Sheffield Arena, all children were impeccably behaved, supportive of all the events, Gladiators and competitors, and learnt a lot about how a huge TV show like Gladiators is organised and produced. Whilst there we also won the ‘Best Poster’ competition, and we were name-checked by Steel during his post-event interview. We are looking forward to watching our episode when it airs in January 2027!

We have already held our annual EYFS Graduation Ceremony, where parents and carers of our Reception children were invited to the village hall to celebrate their Reception child’s ‘Graduation’ after completing the Early Years Foundation Stage. Next, our ‘Leavers Graduation Ceremony’ for the Year 6 children departing Everton Primary School for their allocated secondary schools will take place on Friday 24^th July 2025 – our last day of term.

During this month our children have experienced a wide range of cultural capital opportunities. All Key Stage 2 children took part in Elizabethan Sports Day which was a fabulous chance for the children to represent our school in an inter-school competition in the sunshine. Our Year 6 children will soon be going on their final residential together in Perlethorpe, and enjoying a cinema trip to watch ‘Toy Story 5’, having already enjoyed their water fight!

Unfortunately, it has come to the end of another academic year, and we must say ‘Goodbye’ to our wonderful Year 6 cohort. They will all be missed, but we are very proud of them – of the successes they have had and the progressions that they have made whilst at Everton Primary School – not only academically, but socially and emotionally too. We know that they will continue to succeed and progress in their next chapter of learning at their chosen secondary schools. They will leave as members of our ‘ForEverTeam’.

The same must also be said for Miss Spencer, our Year 3 and 4 class teacher, who is leaving us at the end of the academic year for further progress in her career. Miss Spencer has been a wonderful colleague and role model for the children, ensuring that the pupils take part in many events such as: Sing Out, Choir, Musical Theatre, The Summer Spectacular and many more. We wish Miss Spencer every success and happiness in the next steps of her journey.

I would like to finish by saying how thankful to all stakeholders of Everton Primary School who have ensured that we have had such a successful academic: children, parents, carers, governors, staff and the local community. Without you, there can be no us. I wish you all a lovely summer.

After our visit from Steel (the Gladiator from the BBC TV show) regarding mental and physical health and fitness, we were absolutely delighted to receive a follow up email from him… Steel has visited over 400 schools as part of his ‘Zactiv Initiative’ with school aged children and he has PERSONALLY CHOSEN Everton Primary School as the one that he wants to invite to watch Gladiators live at Sheffield Arena! Therefore, all children of Everton Primary School have been invited to watch the 27th July 2026 recording of the next series as Steel's personal guests! It is a massive compliment to all children and adults to be chosen to represent him and lovely to hear that he’d love to send his daughter to a school like ours, as well how brilliantly behaved and engaged our children were during his visit.

In other news, our School Council have been incredibly busy this month. Firstly, they visited the Mansfield Veolia Materials Recovery Facility. There the School Council children learned all about how recycling is sorted and processed and gained a real insight into the importance of reducing waste and looking after our environment. Thank you to the team at Mansfield Veolia for such an informative and engaging visit. The School Council are now going to feedback what they have learned about ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover’ to the rest of the school in an assembly.

Not stopping there, the School Council also visited County Hall in Nottingham where they hand-delivered Class 2’s letters regarding our need for a school hall to Councillor Mick Barton after an invite from our local Councillor Mike Robertson. The School Council personally discussed our need for a school hall with Cllr. Barton at the round table, enjoyed a fun quiz and tour of County Hall itself, held our latest School Council Meeting in the debating chamber before meeting Chair of the County Council, Cllr. Chris Adegoke. 

Finally, we must say a huge ‘well done’ to our School Choir who performed at the Sing Out Concert at Doncaster Dome - they were all fabulous. Thank you to Miss Spencer for putting it all together and to the parents and carers who attended and supported.

As you can see, Everton Primary School is a fantastic school which gives opportunities for a wide range of activities and positive experiences. Class 1 have also been thinking about ‘Growth’, so they have been looking at seeds. They explored how seeds and bulbs are different and thought about the best conditions for growth. They also set up an investigation to study the size of seeds. Next, the children planted seeds with Mrs Hughes (one of our Governors) as part of their science learning. The children were tasked to care for their plant over the Easter holiday – with all of them miraculously returning to school! The next step is for the children to plant these in Everton’s Lost Garden with Mrs Hughes.

The Class 3 children have also been participating in science activities to celebrate British Science Week 2026 as well as working on tribal masks in Art. All Class 3 children showed plenty of our EverTen Characteristics of Learning as they led the school’s Easter service at church. We were so proud of all our actors, singers and musical performers; they were clear and confident, showing off their performance skills in a brilliant way. In the same way, well done, to our Year 5 children. They completed a 10-week DAaRT programme and took part in their graduation before the Easter break. They learnt such a lot alongside Mr Kemp (their assigned DAaRT Officer) around staying safe and making the right choices as they get older.

Down in the EYFS our youngest children have been learning about the beautiful world that surrounds them. This started with a ‘Nature colour hunt’ around the playground. Following the exploration the children completed observational drawings of some of the beautiful yellow daffodils that they have grown in our garden. Then they had a lovely visit from Farmer Jennie! Farmer Jennie brought in her incubator and some chicks – two of which had hatched they day before arriving and four on the morning of arrival! The children had to be so gentle and careful with the chicks whilst asking some amazing questions.
