Everyone. Everyday. Everlasting.
Our teaching of Religious Education follows the guidance given in the latest Agreed syllabus for Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire:-
Religious Education for All
The Agreed Syllabus for RE in Nottingham City and
Nottinghamshire 2021-2026
Using this Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, we will enable our pupils to discover more about religion as well as other worldviews as we assist them to apply their learning to a range of topics. Our pupils are encouraged to express ideas and insights into key questions, which face all human beings as we travel through life. They will take part in lessons, and could also receive visitors to school sharing a range of religious viewpoints and undertake their own visits to varied places of worship, Covid permitting.
Through these experiences, they will gain insights and knowledge to help equip them as responsible citizens, ready to contribute positively to our society and the wider world.
The three-fold aims of RE in Nottingham City and the County will ensure that our pupils:
By following the Agreed Syllabus, RE will also contribute to a whole range of school priorities. Study of religious and world views will also promote spiritual, cultural, social, and moral development, and will support pupils’ understanding of British Values such as acceptance and respect for others who hold different world views.
If you would like to know more about the Agreed Syllabus, a copy can be made available for you to read in school. Please contact Mrs Bailey, the School Manager, for more information (office@everton.notts.sch.uk).

Withdrawal from Religious Education (RE)
At Everton Primary School, we are committed to providing inclusive Religious Education (RE) for all pupils. Our RE curriculum is broad, respectful and reflective of the diverse beliefs and values within our community. We hope that parents and carers will feel confident in their children’s participation in RE.
However, parents and carers have a legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (and/or collective worship) if they wish to do so.
To exercise this right, parents/carers are asked to contact the Headteacher in writing to request withdrawal. The Headteacher is happy to discuss any concerns, explain the nature of RE provided at the school, and explore available options. Parents/carers are not required to give a reason for withdrawal, and no judgement will be made.
If a child is withdrawn from RE, the school has a duty to supervise them but is not required to provide alternative teaching or incur additional costs. Parents/carers are responsible for arranging alternative RE provision if they wish their child to receive it. Children who are withdrawn from RE may not take part in other curriculum subjects during RE lessons.
Possible arrangements may include:
Receiving RE instruction off-site, for example at another school or a place of worship, provided this does not interfere with the child’s school attendance.
Where off-site provision is not possible, parents/carers may provide suitable RE work for their child to complete in school, which reflects their own faith or beliefs. The school is not responsible for sourcing this work.
In some cases, parents/carers may be comfortable with their child learning about a particular religion but not participating in specific activities such as workshops or visits. Where possible, alternative supervision or provision will be arranged. Parents/carers should inform the Headteacher in advance so appropriate arrangements can be made.
Everton Primary School does not support selective withdrawal from individual elements of the RE curriculum.
Religious Education at Everton Primary School is inclusive, respectful and tolerant. It promotes understanding of different beliefs and cultures and fully supports the teaching of British Values.
