Everyone. Everyday. Everlasting.
We are very fortunate to have two private music specialist teachers that come into Everton Primary School each week: Mr Rider, who specialises in guitar, flute and clarinet, and Mrs Larden, who specialises in the piano.

Information about our private music tutor - Jonathan Rider - and what he can offer our children:
"I studied music education at Durham University in the 90’s and worked as a secondary school teacher before establishing myself as a freelance musician and music teacher in 2000. I teach and play the guitar, clarinet, flute and saxophone. I am also an experienced conductor, arranger and musical director.
My school based teaching is done on a one to one basis and takes place during the school day. Each lesson lasts for twenty minutes and costs £10. I invoice at the start of each half term to be settled within a couple of weeks or so. I prefer to invoice by email if possible.
Generally I expect students to have their own instruments although I have a small number of flutes and clarinets I can loan out. I’m happy to give advice on types of instrument to get and where to obtain them.
Usually I only take students from Y3 and above as from experience I have found that younger children don’t have the necessary finger dexterity and co-ordination to make much progress. However this is not an absolute rule!"
Mrs Larden - Piano:
I am delighted to be able to offer children from Year 3 and upwards the opportunity to have individual piano tuition in school. Lessons last for 20 minutes each week, currently at a cost of £12.50 each and I normally invoice parents directly at the end of each half term (so roughly every 6 weeks). Whenever possible, I vary the start time of the lesson to avoid pupils missing the same class lesson each time.
Trained to Grade 8 standard, I have a BEd (Hons) qualification as well as a deep passion for music and a genuine desire to develop children’s musical abilities. I have also passed the DipABRSM Teaching Diploma.
As pupils progress, there is the option to take ABRSM exams (practical and theory), but of course this will not be compulsory - the emphasis is on enjoyment as well as progression! Although pupils tend to follow a set piano scheme, I incorporate other aspects of musical awareness such as theory, singing and listening and responding to music; developing these skills is key to building a stronger and deeper appreciation of music as well as being extremely important preparation for future exams.
Kind Regards,
Clare Larden
