    Dear Parents,

    New School Year 2018/19

Welcome back – or welcome, if you’re new to our school. It has been wonderful to see our children make an eager start to the new school year, joined by families who have brought their children to our school. You’re all very welcome – and we want to ensure that your child has the best possible time in school. If you want to talk to me about any aspect of your child’s time in school, please do let me know.

Staff spent a busy INSET day at the start of the school year revisiting our school vision. We regularly review our provision to ensure that we offer our children the best that we can. We looked back at the outcomes that children achieved last year. I’m so proud that we send children on to secondary school who are well-prepared academically (the 2018 year 6 achievements were higher than national outcomes again) and equipped socially and emotionally to show confidence, resilience and perseverance when they begin their time at secondary school. Thank you for working with us to help your children to value their time in school.

This term looks set to be as busy as ever, with some of our annual events such as our residential visit to Whitby for Year 5 children, the Harvest service and Christmas fair to look forward to. The dates for these are already on the school website. If you wish to have these dates synced to your own calendar on a mobile phone or tablet, for example, you can subscribe to the school website calendar. Simply follow the link on the webpage: http://www.evertonprimary.co.uk/diary/list/ If you have any queries about how to do this, please pop in to the office to see Mrs Bailey who will be happy to help – or give her a call.

We have added some exciting after-school clubs to our offer this term. Computing club, the Everton football academy and netball have already been advertised and are available to book via ParentMail. We are also adding a cooking club and bringing back ‘theme nights’ for our after-school ‘fun’ club – some children who don’t ‘need’ to be at fun club might enjoy joining in for some of the lovely themes on offer. On the club section of this website there is a complete list of the clubs on offer this term. Because we have a small kitchen, Mrs Foster and Mrs Bailey (who will run the cooking club) can accommodate up to 8 children at a time. If we have more than 8 people requesting a place before the deadline of Monday 17th September, we’ll put all the names in to a hat and place the children into a half-term slot according to the order that names are drawn out. We’ll let you know when your child’s turn will be (or if they can join straight away). I hope you’ll understand that we need to do this fairly. There will be a form on ParentMail for you to complete if you’d like your child to take part in cookery club.

Payment and booking for clubs can be done via ParentMail (Breakfast club and fun club are invoiced every 4 weeks via ParentMail). School payments continue to operate ONLY via ParentMail as the school does not accept cash for any payments except snacks at morning break for children in years 1-6. Please remember to pay promptly for events and activities that you choose to use and keep your child’s dinner money account in credit. We will not be able to offer services and school lunches if your account remains in debit. Please talk to us if you have any problems or need help with the payment system.

Parents meetings will again be held at times to suit you, with teachers being released from their teaching duties so that they have time to meet with you and have helpful and informative discussions. Class teachers will arrange their meetings and invite you to book appointments in the coming weeks.

I’m looking forward to seeing you at key events coming up this term. In the meantime, please talk to me if you want to discuss any aspect of your child’s learning and development.

    With very best wishes,

    Paul Higginbottom

  • Autumn Term News

Mon 11 Dec 2017 Mr Higginbottom

As the autumn term comes to an end, it is a good time to update you on news at
Everton Primary. Please take a moment to read our updates.

    Communication

We no longer send regular newsletters because we use Parentmail and Class Dojo to let you know about key information relevant to your child’s class. Please make sure that you are signed up to receive Parentmail and Class Dojo updates otherwise you will not receive information from school. Please pop in to see Mrs Bailey in the school office if you need help with either of these, or if there is a reason why we need to communicate with you in a different way.

    Partnerships

I’m delighted to be able to tell you that our collaboration partner school, Mattersey Primary School, has just received a ‘good’ outcome at an inspection by Ofsted. The inspector praised the partnership between our two schools. Small schools working together is an efficient and effective way of providing education to small villages. I’m pleased that we are making our partnership work so well for both communities.

    Parking

I have been so grateful that the majority of our parents have understood the need not to park or stop along Chapel Lane where the yellow markings are. Thank you for helping to keep all children safe. If you could remind child-minders, grandparents, etc. of our request and also remember not to stop to let children out or park opposite the driveway gate, that would be appreciated.

    Admissions to our school

We have a few spaces in some of our year groups, so if you know of anyone considering a school move, please let them know that we might have a place for their child and encourage them to contact us. Similarly, if you know of anyone with pre-school aged children, do encourage them to visit our nursery so that they can secure a place for their child. We continue to offer care for all children, including nursery aged children, from 8am to 5pm at excellent rates. Our upcoming nursery/reception open sessions take place on the 12th December, 1pm to 3pm and 10th January 10:30-12. Prospective parents do not need to pre-book an appointment, they can just come and see us at one of those sessions. Parents can use the 15 or 30-hours funding with us if they are eligible.

Thank you for your continuing support of your children and our school. As ever, if you have anything you’d like to discuss with me, please catch me at the gate or come in to see me.

From everyone at Everton Primary School, we hope that you enjoy a very Merry Christmas and we look forward to a great new year.

    With very best wishes,

    Paul Higginbottom
