Everyone. Everyday. Everlasting.
Keep up to date with all the news happening in school at the moment.
“Happy New Year” from everyone at Everton Primary School!
What a start we have had to 2023 already. Class 3 and our School Council have been incredibly fortunate to go on visit to the Imperial War Museum and Houses of Parliament. The children (and staff) negotiated both the train and underground being making their way to the Imperial War Museum where they were able to learn more about World War I, which they had been covering through the book ‘War Horse’ written by Michael Morpurgo. From there the children walked to the Houses of Parliament. Within the Houses of Parliament, the children were shown around by tour guides learning about the history of the building, how parliament operates and democratic representation. The children got to sit within both the House Commons and the House of Lords listening to MPs and Lords and Baronesses debating over current ‘bills’. After that the children enjoyed a workshop at the Education Centre within the Houses of Parliament where they took part in debating and passing their own laws. We were then joined by our Bassetlaw MP – Brendan Clarke-Smith – who a very good sport answering all of the children’s questions about his time in politics, and Phil Bingham from Universal Coatings based in Misterton, whose company has done a lot of the recent restoration work on the Elizabeth Tower itself and Big Ben. I must take this opportunity to thank Brendan Clarke-Smith MP, Phil Bingham, the staff at the Houses of Parliament, our own school staff and most importantly the Class 3 children and School Council members who made it such a lovely trip.
Our Class 2 children have also taken part in a school trip – a visit to the Bassetlaw Museum. Here the children in Years 3 and 4 looked at how the Roman slaves made clay pots for their masters; made their own clay pots; looked at real and replica items from the Roman times; investigated different parts of a gladiator uniform; and imitated a Roman wedding. Again, thank you to both the Bassetlaw Museum and school staff for making it such a wonderfully informative and enjoyable school visit.
Elsewhere in school Class 1 have started their ‘Pirates’ topic: exploring Blackbeard’s life as a pirate and creating WANTED Posters for him; researching maps of the UK as geographers; ‘hot-seating’ as Anne Bonny; and attending a Water Safety talk from the Canal and River Trust. Our EYFS children also took part in the Water Safety talk, whilst also focusing on Chinese New Year – the year of the rabbit – and creating lanterns; joining a Scholastic Schools Live storytelling of ‘I love Chinese New Year’ by author Eva Wong Nava; and got to taste Chinese food and learning to use chopsticks!
As I am sure you’re aware, and you have just read, Everton Primary School is a lovely village school with a very capable, kind and caring staff. If you, or anyone you know, have preschool or primary aged children and would like to make visit to look around our school with a view to attending, we currently have a space in each of our Nursery, Reception, Year 4 and Year 5 age groups.
Best Wishes for this new year,

In the last month at Everton Primary School we have been preparing for Christmas! Our Foundation Stage and Class 1 children have been working really hard preparing for their ‘Boogie Woogie’ Nativity, which is taking place in the Village Hall on Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th December 2022. Alongside the Nativity plays, we are also having parents in for our Christmas Craft Afternoon on 16th December; Christmas Fair and ‘Dragon’s Den’ led by Class 3 on Monday 19th December; and our Christmas service at Holy trinity church led by Class 2 on Wednesday 2st December.
Congratulations to the Class 3 children who took part in the Bassetlaw Sports Hall Athletics Final. After qualifying first from the Elizabethan Family of Schools event, we finished a very respectable fifth in the Bassetlaw Final. Over 30 schools took part in the two events, so it is a wonderful achievement.
On Friday 9th December the 'Everton Primary School Musical Spectacular' took place at the Everton Village Hall. The showcase featured the School Choir and some of our fantastic musicians. It was fabulous for the children’s parents and members of our village to both enjoy the talents of our children.
As a school please can we offer our thanks to Tabbie Routledge who donated some old vinyl singles to the school’s PTA that we managed to sell for £110. It is this money that has funded selection boxes (and wrapping paper) for all the children at Everton Primary School this Christmas.
As I am sure you’re aware, at Everton Primary School we are very fortunate to have a lovely village school with a very capable, kind and caring staff. Since the October half term we have been really busy in trying to make our learning ‘real’ for the children. This has meant giving the children experiences and lessons that they can experience first hand and gain ‘cultural capital’ from.
Our Class 3 (Year 5 & 6) children had a wonderful residential visit to Hagg Farm. The children experienced lovely nature walks, caving, canoeing and combat the nightline course and cooking marshmallows on a campfire. In addition to this, the children learnt about nature, rivers and how to be more independent away from home.
In the run up to Bonfire Night we were visited by the Misterton Fire Service who spoke to us about fire safety. We also discussed the history of Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot, including its religious origins and disagreements between Protestants and Catholics.
Building up to Remembrance Day, we were very fortunate to have John Millin in school for an extended assembly and to play his bagpipes as the children left school. John Millin is the son of the late Bill Millin, who fearlessly played his pipes while allied troops scrambled onto Sword Beach. Bill was a Canadian musician and was the personal piper to Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat (Commander of the British 1 Special Service Brigade at D-Day). Bill was made more infamous by the war film ‘The Longest Day’. John works really hard to keep the memory of his late father alive. Sadly, Bill died before he could see the unveiling of his statue in Normandy but his son, John, and his Grandson were invited to play. He has met many dignitaries and recently appeared on The One Show.
On Monday 14th November our children wore odd socks to signal the start of Anti-bullying Week. The children have been thinking about what bullying is, the different types of bullying, how it can make them feel and who they should speak to if they are upset.
Throughout the month of November Miss Oakley has been hosting 'Starbooks' coffee mornings in school for parents and carers to learn about our phonics scheme – Unlocking Letters and Sounds, read with their children in our new library and hall, as well as complete a book reviews together. This has been enjoyed by parents, carers and staff alike.
As I am sure you’re aware, at Everton Primary School we are very fortunate to have a lovely village school with a very capable, kind and caring staff. If you, or anyone you know, have preschool or primary aged children and would like to make visit to look around our school with a view to attending, we currently have a space in each of our Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 age groups.
Finally, a reminder that our PTA have set up an Everton Primary School lottery and the first draw will be taking place on Saturday 3rd December. The link for tickets if you wish to take part is:https://www.yourschoollottery.co.uk/lottery/school/everton-primary-school

In the last month the children of Everton Primary School have been incredibly busy in the lead up to Harvest. Children in our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 led our Harvest Festival Service with a range of harvest songs and role play.
The children of our School Council have decided that they would like to focus on plastic pollution and recycling this academic year. Therefore, alongside RotaKids, they have been on a litter pick around the village. They were pleasantly surprised at how little litter they could find around Everton and would like to thank the local residents and community for this. The School Council now plan on giving an assembly to the rest of school about plastic pollution and recycling to ensure that the next generations of our village maintain the same pride in it as current residents. We have also arranged for a local recycling company – Go Green – to come into school for the day to set each class tasks regarding recycling and making the world a better place.
Miss Oakley and Mrs Milburn have rolled out our new phonics scheme in school – Unlocking Letters and Sounds – and the children have taken to this extremely well. Miss Oakley is starting ‘Starbooks’ sessions after half term for parents to come into school and learn about the new phonics scheme, read with their children in our lovely new library and enjoy a coffee and biscuit while doing so. In sporting news, the school football team have continued to play well this month, winning against Misson and Beckingham Primary Schools as well as an incredible 8-8 draw with North Wheatley Primary School.
We are extremely grateful to our PTA members who continue to be a very important part of our school community. Their most recent enterprise was to set up an Everton Primary School lottery – which is now in place! It is a weekly lottery to help raise funds for Everton Primary School. 40% of tickets sold will go directly to school. Tickets for the lottery are just £1 per ticket, per week and can be paid for up front on debit card or by Direct Debit. A ticket consists of one, 6 digit number chosen randomly, or by you. With a guaranteed winner from Everton Primary School each week (prize dependent on the number of tickets sold). All tickets will also be entered into a national, Your School Lottery draw, to win a top prize of £25,000. For anyone wanting to purchase a ticket, our first draw will be on Saturday 3rdDecember and will every Saturday from this date. We hope lots of you will be willing to support. Uniform
PE Kit
Like last year, we are very fortunate to be able to welcome Doncaster Rovers on a Wednesday and Kixx on a Friday to take specialist PE sessions. I am happy for the children to continue to come to school in their PE kit to school on Wednesday and Fridays. PE kit includes:
P.E. Kit should be as plain as possible and not have any big logos on it.
Please label all items of clothing with your child’s name. Book bags and school uniform (including PE kit) can be purchased from M & S - tel. 0844 544 7972 or at mandsyourschooluniform.com. However, there is no obligation to get uniform with the school logo upon it and it is possible to get good quality ‘pre-loved’ uniform for a small cost from the school office/PTA if you would prefer.
Jewellery is not allowed in school for safety reasons, except for simple studs and watches. Watches that link to a mobile device are not allowed in school. All items must be removed for games, swimming and other physical activities by the children themselves. School cannot take responsibility for any jewellery brought into school.
Hair styles must be formal and make-up is not allowed. Please ensure your child has a water bottle daily which contains water.
Breakfast Club (before school) and Fun Club (after school)
Out-of-school and wraparound childcare can offer provision to all children. Breakfast Club is available from 7:45am daily, for all ages, charged at £3.50 per session - children are served a healthy breakfast consisting of toast, juice and cereals as well as being able to access a range of activities provided by Mrs Foster.
Fun Club is available Monday to Friday from 3:15pm - 5pm with various activities available for children to participate in with Mrs Foster. Fun club is available as a pre-book or last minute drop-in service until 4pm, charged at £3.50. We will also offer two further pick up times: 4:30 and 5pm. Charges will be a further £2.50 per half hour. Please note that if your child is collected later than 4pm, you will incur the next half hourly charge.
Clubs
Doncaster Rovers (Wednesday) and Kixx (Friday) will be running their afterschool clubs from 3.15pm – 4.15pm as they did last year.
This academic year there are going to be a variety of clubs available to your children. Details of these will be communicated to you soon by the member of staff taking them.
Communication
Communication is incredibly important, as a school we want to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. Staff are available on the playground for short messages or to make a mutually convenient time to meet if necessary. Class Dojo is a really good communication tool, allowing you to message staff who can then reply as soon as they are able to. For time sensitive issues please phone the school office on 01777 817350.
Attendance
If your child is too poorly for school, please email or telephone the office. The office will ring you on the day your child is absent if you have not notified them of a reason why. The advice for Covid-19 remains the same – if your child tests positive for Covid-19/shows symptoms, then please keep them off school for three days or until they feel better.
Holidays are not permitted during term time and we cannot authorise them. Our attendance as a school was only just above the national average during the last academic so we need to show improvements this year – we do not want any of our parents to be fined.
School Dinners
School dinners are now on a three-week menu. Packed lunches need to be in line with healthy eating guidance and not contain sweets, chocolate bars and fizzy/energy drinks. Menus are updated on the school website and Class Dojo.

Building Work
Over the summer holidays we have made some changes to the school building itself. The Library has been halved and made into the staffroom creating a much wider and longer hall, and the staffroom has been ripped out and a new library created in its place. Class 1 has also been re-decorated. I will be updating Class Dojo with pictures very soon.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents/carers involved with helping the school with these changes over the summer. Particularly Mr Lee and SL2 for the building work, Mr Brennan for fitting the carpets and Mr Atkinson for his help with the paint work.
I must also thank all of you for your support during the last academic year raising funds for the new library, which will make such a positive impact on the children’s love of reading and the overall modernisation and feel within school.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon,
Kindest regards,
Mr Andrew Green
As we come into our final weeks of term the children of Everton Primary School take part in their ‘Transition Weeks’. This has included moving up to their next classroom and teacher or welcoming the year group below into their current classroom in preparation for the next academic year.
This month has also seen our oldest children in Year 6 go on transition days to their selected secondary schools. We were very pleased to hear about all their successes and how well they settled in, but we were also pleased to have them back for the final few weeks before they leave us and move on for real at the end of term.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sun Inn for hosting their Pub Quiz Night this month in association with our school’s PTA. They, along with the support of the local community, helped raise money that will go towards our new library in our school.
In addition to this, our children took part in the ‘Race for Life’ event and to date, through the generosity of our parents, carers and community, we have raised exactly £1000 for this worthwhile cause. The link is still active, so if you are in a position to make a donation towards our Race for Life fundraiser then please follow this link: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/everton-primary-school-1
Everton Primary School’s Sports Day went very well in the beautiful sunshine on the Metcalfe Field, with the children being incredibly supportive of one another no matter the results. It was fabulous to see so many parents and carers join us too, with some even taking part in the parent races.
The next few weeks see our School Summer Fair on Wednesday 20th July at 3.15pm, a Year 6 trip to Perlthorpe and a Reception and Key Stage 1 trip to Austerfield. The Year 6 children will have their Leavers Service at Everton’s Holy Trinity Church on Tuesday 26th July at 1.30pm. We will miss them but they know that they will always be welcome back at Everton Primary School as members of the EverTeam.
We are not only saying ‘goodbye’ to our Year 6 children this academic year, but also to Mrs Bowers, Mrs Pickering and Miss Graseley from our staff team. They will all be missed but we thank them for all that they have done for Everton Primary School and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.
Best Wishes,

The children of Everton Primary School have spent a lot of time recently learning about our country’s history and traditions, with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee firmly in their minds. The children have created flags, crowns, outfits and written pieces as part of their learning.
Our school choir had been practising many songs in preparation for the village’s Platinum Jubilee event, where they performed with aplomb. Thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and encouragement regarding the school choir’s performance. A big thank you must also go to Miss Spencer, our Year 3 and 4 teacher, who has been running our choir throughout the academic year, and Mr Paul Sydney for coming into school and supporting the children on their journey to the Jubilee celebrations.
At school we enjoyed a ‘Platinum Jubilee Tea Party’, where parents and carers were able to come into school and enjoy light refreshments together with their children in order to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II 70 years ago.
In other news, our Year 5 and 6 children went on an educational visit to ‘Safety Zone’ – taking part in indoor and outdoor activities revolving around keeping themselves safe. They also had a visit from our Water Safety visitors to help prepare them for their canal field study trip which takes place at the end of this month.
On Thursday 23rd June our Key Stage 2 children are taking part in a ‘Race for Life’ event on the Metcalfe Field. If you are in a position to make a donation towards our Race for Life fundraiser then please follow this link: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/everton-primary-school-1

At the end of April it was lovely to see our Reception and Nursery children so animated as they designed and created shields for St George to celebrate our patron saint on 23rd April. The children were told the story of St George and the dragon and then used their shields to act it out.
The beginning of May saw our Year 3 and 4 children head to Kingswood at Dearne Valley for a residential trip. Over the three days that they were there they took part in activities such as raft building, archery, abseiling, a high ropes course, orienteering and aeroball amongst others. The children also learnt valuable social and emotional life lessons such as being away from home, independence, bravery and experiencing activities that they may not have done previously or do again.
Next saw the beginning of the Year 6 SATs Test week. Many of our Year 6 children have been at Everton Primary School since the age of 3 years and lots of our staff have watched them grow and develop into the lovely children that they are. At Everton we measure our children by so much more than test results. Our children are kind, caring and thoughtful; our children can sing, dance and take part in numerous sports; our children are clever in practical and interactive tasks; and each one of our children are special and unique in their own way. They have already passed our ‘EverTeam’ test. That being said, we are incredibly proud of how they all applied themselves during the SATs Test week and in school since. They were great role models for our Year 2 children who have now begun their SATs Tests. It is amazing to see how their young minds work as they answer questions and show their working out.
This month our Class 3 children are finally performing Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the Village Hall. You might wonder why we are doing ‘A Christmas Carol’ in May…well, unfortunately due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in school during the Christmas period the children were unable to perform it at that time. Therefore, they did all the hard work and preparation for the performance without actually getting the opportunity to showcase it to a live audience. From what I have seen, it should be fabulous!
Please can I take this opportunity to thank parents and members of the public that continue to support the school by offering their help, support and opportunities for the children at Everton Primary School.
Best Wishes,
Andrew Green

Firstly, I would like to personally thank the community for their support in buying tickets for the school’s ‘Chocolate Raffles’. Money raised from the chocolate raffles is going to be used to improve our library and reading provisions in school. Thank you for the ink cartridge and foreign currency donations too – both of which continue to be collected in school during the summer term.
Before the Easter break our Year 5 and 6 children completed their DAaRT course – learning about keeping themselves safe and reacting responsibly to different social situations as they grow up and move onto secondary school – and then took part in their DAaRT Graduation. The Year 5 and 6 children also took part in an informative ‘Flooding’ talk with the Canal and River Trust. Mr Scott introduced the whole school to a ‘Neuro-diversity Week’ where the children learnt about the variety of different ways in which they might learn, react and behaved to various situations. Finally, in the week before Easter, our children led the school’s Easter Service at Holy Trinity Church in Everton – singing traditional Easter hymns and performing dramatized readings for parents and carers.
Everton Primary School had quite a bit of success in the sporting arena before Easter. The Year 3 and 4 boys did incredibly well when finishing fifth at a tournament at Doncaster Rovers’ stadium, whilst the school football team – made up of both boys and girls – won a keenly contested match against Beckingham Primary School 8-4.
In exciting news following the Easter break, the school has a new look! We have had the corridor and hall painted and modernised and the children were very impressed upon their return. They were equally delighted with our new ‘Willow Dome’, which was kindly donated to school by Mrs Lee and put together by PTA parents and carers. The willow dome will give the children a quiet place to relax and reflect during break times.
Best Wishes,

Advice to All Parents - warn and inform
Dear Parents,
We have been advised that there have been confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the school. We appreciate that you may find this concerning, so we are continuing to monitor the situation and are providing the following advice. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
What are we already doing?
Students and staff who have tested positive are staying at home and will return to the setting once they are well and have completed the recommended isolation period.
Outbreak control measures are also in place within the school and being kept under review.
If your child is well
The school remains open. If your child remains well, they can continue to attend school as normal.
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19
If your child develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), they should get a PCR test (https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 119) and remain at home at least until the result is known and they are fever free (without medication) for at least 24 hours.
People who test positive for COVID-19 should self-isolate at home until they are well enough to return, no longer have a temperature and either:
Note: Lingering coughs and changes to smell/taste are not a sign of ongoing infectiousness, so children can return to school if they have ended their self-isolation period (see above).
If your child does not have symptoms, count the day they took the test as day 0.
You can seek advice on COVID-19 symptoms from the nhs.uk website. If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111 at https://111.nhs.uk/ or by phoning 111.
Advice for people who live in the same household as someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is symptomatic and awaiting a test result
Children and young people who usually attend an education or childcare setting and who live with someone who has COVID-19 can continue to attend the setting as normal.
Those who are at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 should be supported to minimise their contact with other people in the household during this period, regardless of whether others have symptoms or not. People at higher risk of becoming severely unwell if they are infected with COVID-19 include:
How to reduce spread of COVID-19 if you live with someone who has COVID-19
Even if you are vaccinated, you can still be infected with COVID-19 and pass it on to others. People who live in the same household or have had an overnight stay with someone with COVID-19 or at highest risk as they are more likely to have had prolonged contact., you can help protect others by following the guidance on how to stay safe and help prevent the spread.
To reduce the spread of COVID-19 in your community:
You should follow this advice for 10 days after the person you live with or stayed with symptoms started (or the day their test was taken if they did not have symptoms).
If you are a health or social care worker or student undertaking a work placement who has been identified as a household contact and are exempt from self-isolation, there is additional guidance available that you should follow to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 in these settings.
If you develop symptoms at any time, even if these are mild, you are advised to stay at home and avoid contact with others, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test, and follow the guidance for people with COVID-19 symptoms.
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
How to stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with coronavirus (COVID-19):
